The language has evolved through significant literary works such as Charyapad, Baisnabpadabali, and Mangalkabya from the medieval period. In the 19th-century Bengal Renaissance was a pivotal time that further enriched Bengali literature, leading to the emergence of esteemed writers like Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore, and Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay. This vibrant period has created a remarkable legacy in Bengali literature and culture. In 2024, the Government of India proudly recognized Bengali as one of the Classical Languages of India.
